BIOGRAPHY
 
John Chetwood Elliott was born in New York in 1926. In Rye his family lived at 2 Stuyvesant Avenue. John enlisted in 1944 and served in the Merchant Marines during World War II.

John Elliot DARIEN, Conn. John Chetwood Elliott, 64, of Long Neck Point Road, died Jan. 1 at Stamford Hospital. He maintained a second home in Wardsboro, Vt., for many years. Bom Feb. 5, 1926, in Rye, N.Y., he was the son of Chetwood and Julia (Hall) Elliott. He attended Tabor Academy, graduating in 1944. Mr. Elliott served in the U.S. NaVy in World War II as a link trainer instructor for Navy pilots and after his discharge attended Bridgeport University, graduating with a bachelor of science degree in engineering. He worked for Marine Management Systems as a vice president before his retirement. An avid lifetime sailor, he was a member of. the Cruising Club of America. Survivors include two sons, Mark C. Elliott of Burlington, Vt., and Jeffrey C. Elliott of Pawling, N.Y.; two daughters, Elizabeth Smidt Bliss and Joanie Hutchinson Bliss, both of Darien; one brother, Harry B. Elliot of Dorset, Vt.; and two grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Dodie E. Thompson. A private memorial service will be held today at 11 a.m. at the Noroton Presbyterian Church. The Edward Lawrence Funeral Home in Noroton is in charge arrangements.
